Public Law 143-1999 required that the Indiana Department of Education begin developing grade-by-grade standards in core subject areas.

The purpose of the Indiana Academic Standards is to spell out what children should know and be able to do at their grade level.  The standards are intended to drive curriculum decisions and are to be the basis for questions on the annual ISTEP test.

“Standards 2000 reflect the best information available about what students need to know and be able to do at each grade,” said Dr. Suellen Reed, superintendent of public instruction. “These standards are more rigorous, more comprehensive, and provide a better picture of the scope and sequence of student expectations for learning.”

The ASAP website is designed to assist school communities in their efforts to improve education. The data and resource information provided can be used by all stakeholders to make informed decisions that have a positive impact on student achievement.

The School City of Hobart designs all curriculum and instruction in accordance with the Indiana Academic Standards .
