Koalas are found naturally only in Australia.  They live in scattered sections of the forests that run from the north to the south along the eastern side of Australia.

The koala reaches a length of 60 to 85cm. and has a maximum life span of 13 to 18 years.  I t has a large round head with large round furry ears and a stout  body covered  with thick ashy gray fur .  Its legs are short and its feet are large with five toes.  Each toe has a strong claw.

When the marsupial population more or less had Australia to themselves  there  were  few carnivorous meat eating  animals  that  preyed  on the koala.  Later a wild dog called the dingo began to prey on them.

Koalas are found only in eucalyptus forests of Eastern Australia.  The animals  frequent  high eucalyptus  trees;  feeding  on the  leaves and  flowers  of  certain  species of eucalyptus. The males are more active than  the females and feed during the day.  The females sleep all day and feed at night. Most marsupial species are found in Australia and New Zealand, although many live in parts of South America.
