ASVAB/Interest Inventory
What is an Interest Inventory??
An interest inventory is designed to help identify areas that are of interest to the individual and relate those to the world of work. Results are usually based on various "types" or "themes". For instance, if a person is interested in activities that allow him or her to use their imagination and be creative, they would probably be considered an "Artistic" type. Types or themes are never based on one question only, but on how the individual answers several questions. Very often, students are classified as more than one type or theme.
Freshman and sophomore students complete an interest inventory as part of their class meeting with their counselor. Junior students can elect to take the ASVAB (Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery) which includes not only interests, but aptitudes. The ASVAB consists of ten short tests with both "academic" and "occupational" composites. Juniors who are unsure as to their career path should take this test. Students can request to take an interest inventory at any time.
