RAILROADS
In about 1852, the New Albany, Salem, and Chicago Railroad was built north
of Hobart. In 1854, The Pittsburg, Fort Wayne, and Chicago Railroad (now
the Amtrak) was built through town. George Earle arranged the finances to
finish the railroad when there was no money to complete it. Soon, Hobart
was known as the main railroad center in Lake County!
