Spring greetings from Mrs. Hoffman's first grade class.
Our school is located in the central part of Pennsylvania. We are near the
city of Altoona. There are approximately 500 students in our school K-4.
Our class has twenty-three students, 12 boys and 11 girls.
We have just finished a unit on nutrition. We studied
about the food groups and the food pyramid. We made center pieces out of
cereal boxes to be used on our tables at home to remind us to have good
nutrition. We enjoyed special guest speakers such as the Blair County Dairy
Princess. To conclude our unit we had a nutritious snack. We decided to
make 'Veggie Kids.' This is how we made them:
First we needed fresh cut vegetables. We used the kind
you usually munch on such as: carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, green
peppers, radishes, cucumbers, parsley and olives.
(Our teacher took care of getting these for us and
put them in zip-lock bags so we could all work from our own supply.)
Next we arranged our vegetables on paper plates to make
them look like kids. We had lots of fun! This is what some of them looked
like.
After we were done we had fun eating our snacks with a
low-fat veggie dip.
