Mrs. Huttle's First Grade
Ridge View School
Hobart, Indiana
Hello from Ridge View School in Hobart, Indiana. Hobart
is a small city in northwest Indiana, close to Lake Michigan and Chicago,
Illinois.
Now that it is warming up, our thoughts are on signs of
spring and our Frog and Toad Unit fits well with the season. My first graders
are learning the similarities and differences between frogs and toads, and
their characteristics as amphibians. We read as much as we can about frogs
and toads including adding a little humor with Arnold Lobel's Frog and Toad
books. Our study is a great introduction to our next and final unit of the
school year which is on rainforest and zoo animals, including a trip to
the zoo.
An easy to make Toad Face Snack is both nutritious and
fun for the students.
Toad Face Snack
You will need:
- rice or popcorn cakes (Quacker Chocolate Crunch Rice
Cakes work well)
- peanut butter
- grapes (two per child)
- raisins (two or four per child)
- two inch long red licorice lace (one per child)
Spread the peanut butter on the rice cake. Add grape eyes
with optional raisin pupils stuck on with peanut butter, two raisins for
nostrils, and a red licorice lace smile.
Have a "Toadally" terrific time!
Mrs. Yost's Kindergarten
University School
Indiana, PA
Hello from Indiana, Pennsylvania. We are the kindergarten
students at the University School on the Indiana University of PA campus.
There are 8 children in our room. We recently studied maps. We used maps
to fix our snack one Monday during KinderCooks. The following is the recipe
we used to make pudding. The materials were scattered around the room at
different color coded stations. We had to use a map to find ouringredients
and fix our own pudding. We all started at the same station, we got a clear
cup and spoon there. We all ended up at the same station, the refrigerator.
At the other stations we got the pudding powder, the milk powder, the water,
and stiring instuctions. It was great fun to make and even as much fun
to eat later!!
Instant Pudding
Servings: 1

- 2 Tablespoons powdered milk

Combine all the ingredients in a cup and mix well. Place
in a refrigerator to cool. Enjoy!!
