BIOLOGY AS SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY
The problem solving process is also called the scientific method.  Most of the facts that we find in the textbooks are a product of this method.  Science is the PROCESS of uncovering these facts and concepts themselves.  Learning the facts in a science course, without the process by which they were discovered, would be like taking an art course to learn to do art and instead just look at the art completed by others.  If you don't have the chance to produce art work yourself, you will not have a good understanding of what art is all about.  Looking at and studying the great works of art is important and we can learn from them, just as we A Poor Hypothesiscan learn from looking at the experiements planned by scientists and studying facts discovered by someone else.  But that's not all science students should do.  Therefore, in this course you will do some problem-solving of your own in a laboratory setting.  By the end of this course, you will thoroughly know how to use each step in the scientific method to solve a laboratory problem.  After all, that's what science is all about!  You will find that it is fun to discover new things...and that is just what you will do.
