Introduction

Sydney is a 6 year old girl who likes to eat candy, sometimes forgets to brush her teeth, and doesn't like to visit the dentist. Your mission is to help Sydney learn to take good care of her teeth.

The Task

Each of you will play an important role in teaching Sydney how to take proper care of her teeth so that they will last for her entire life. Sydney needs to learn about her teeth, how to eat right, choose healthy snacks, and how to care for her teeth so she can keep her bright smile and her teeth for her entire life.

The Process

You will work in teams of three. Each of you will assume one of the roles listed below. You will need to visit web sites and each make a slide show in Kid Pix to explain to Sydney the things she should know and do to keep her teeth healthy and her smile happy.

The Dentist: As Sydney's dentist you want her to know why she needs her teeth, the different kinds of teeth, and what can happen to harm them.

The Hygienist: As the hygienist you want to show Sydney how she should care for her teeth and explain the different dental tools that the dentist will use.

The Parent: As Sydney's parent you want Sydney to learn to eat the right foods to help her teeth stay healthy, and especially how to choose snacks wisely.

Tell how Sydney can take care of her teeth at home
Tell what might happen if you did not take good care of your teeth

The Parent needs to explain the following things in the slide show:

Name the different food groups
Tell how many servings you should have from each group
Tell why milk is good for your teeth
Tell Sydney about snack foods she should try not to eat
Tell Sydney about snack foods that are healthy
Draw at least one food from each food group that would make a good snack
Tell what might happen if Sydney does not eat the right kinds of food
