Pauline Panda's Adventures in Hobart

Oct. 18, 1999
We are so happy to have Pauline with us. She came a long way from California. Maybe she will like our weather better because it's in the fifty degree mark here in Hobart, Indiana.

We are third graders at St. Bridget Catholic School in Hobart, Indiana. Hobart is in the northwestern corner of Indiana. Hobart is a small city and is hard to find on many maps. We are next to Gary, Indiana which is a big city. We are 35 miles southeast of Chicago, Illinois. Chicago is a very big city and easy to find on most maps. Hobart does not have many tall buildings. We have many parks and trees. We are very close to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a national park. The leaves on the trees have started to change colors. It looks very pretty when the green leaves change to colors of red, gold, yellow, and brown.

We have kindergarten through eighth grade in our school. We also have a preschool here too. We have 2 all day kindergarten classes, 2 second grades, and 2 third grades. All the other grades have just one class each.

We will take some pictures of Hobart and send them to you. I hope you enjoy our notes just as much as we enjoyed yours.

Your new friends,
Sister Constance's Third Grade

I'm so glad that I finally got out of that box. It was a long trip getting to Hobart. I made my debut to the Third Grade Class during computer time. I like the Computer Room. Maybe the kids will do a story about me on the computer.

The afternoon was busy too. I went over to a Book Fair and saw some books about my Panda Family. Later I went down to Music Class. There I found a big stick of bamboo...yum! yum!

The teacher said that I could not nibble because that was really a rain stick made from bamboo. Oh well....

Love,
Pauline

Here is another beautiful Fall day. The trees are so pretty out here. It has been a super busy day at St. Bridget School. We took class pictures early this morning. Everyone looked so nice in their Sunday best.

I got to be in the class picture too. I hope they send me a copy. Today was Library Day and Book Fair Day also. Many of the students were looking for Panda books. I must have made a good impression on this class.

A visiting teacher came to read to the class in place of Computer Class. Mrs. Groff was sick today, so we missed Computer Class.

Officer Grennes came to the room in the afternoon. He spoke about safety. He gave everyone a sticker...even me.

Love,
Pauline

Today was kind of a quiet day. The best thing was recess. I got to go out with Julie, Reyna, and Melissa. Later the children asked me to join in a soccer game. I became a member of the Third Grade Soccer Team. YEAH TEAM! The Second Grade put on a playlet late in the afternoon. It was good.

Love,
Pauline
