Why I Made This Web Page

Reading is an important part of school and an important part of life.  My parents read to me when I was a baby.  Once I started reading, they helped me with easy books and read harder books to me, so that I would be comfortable with new vocabulary.  My brother reads a lot and sometimes he would read a chapter book to me.  Even before I started school, someone would read me the 20 Hoosier Award Nominees for that year.  I have read Hoosiers Award Nominees since 1997 when we moved to Indiana.

One of my parents' favorite quotes is:  "If you can read, you can be anything.  If you can read, you can go anywhere."  Now that I can read, I understand what they mean.

I started this project as a web page.  Then my friend, Amanda, and I started working on the God Bless America: Land that We Love web page for the Northwest Indiana AIME Media Fair in March of 2003.  I didn't want to compete against myself, so, I changed the Hoosier Award Nominees project to a Power Point presentation.  That project did not win Best of Category in March, so I decided to change the Power Point presentation back to a web page for the AECT International Student Media Fair.  A web page makes the information available to more people.

I think the Power Point presentation is a neat way for students to check out which of the 2002-2003 Hoosier nominees they might to read so I have included it as a download to this website.  On each slide, there is a link to an excerpt of the book, which I read.  To download it, click here.
