The Periodic Table

Noble Gases

Group 18 on the periodic table consists of six noble gases.  Before the 1960's these six elements were considered inert gases because their oxidation number was 0 (which does not allow them to combine with other elements easily).  All six noble gases have the maximum number of electrons possible in their outer shell which makes them stable.

The noble gases are:

Argon

Helium

Krypton

Neon

Radon

Xenon
