Introduction | Task | Resources | Process | Evaluation | Conclusion

The teacher will place you into groups of 3.  The teacher will assign each group an animal.  The animals are:  sheep, goat, horse, cow, pig (swine) and chicken.

You will decide, within your group, which job you want to do.  The jobs are:  artist, writer, presenter.
The artist is in charge of designing and drawing the banner.
The writer is in charge of writing out the information needed for the presentation.
The presenter will present the information to the class.

You will all answer any questions asked after the presentation.  You are all required to take part in the research part of this project.

First, you will need to learn more about the 4-H organization.  Click on the links provided on the resource page to learn more about 4-H.

Find out what the term "4-H" means.  Also, find out about other projects you can become involved in with 4-H.  Choose one to tell about during your presentation.  What it is, why did you chose it and what would you learn from it?  If your group cannot decide on one project, you may each choose a different one and tell about it.

Once you have been given your animal, you will go to the resource page and click on the links provided.  This is where you will find information about your animal.  You will need to find the answers to these questions:

1.  Where does your animal live on the farm?  What is its habitat?

2.  What does your animal eat?  How much?

3.  Does your animal have a usefulness on the farm?  Meaning, is the animal able
to help with chores, or is it just a food source?

4.  Name 3 different breeds of your animal.

5.  What are the terms for male and female for the animal?

6.  What products do we get from the animal (food or other by-products)?

Once you have answered all the questions and located all the information you need, you will need to make a banner.  The banner must be made on a large poster board or large science project type board.

Your banner must have a picture of the animal, a picture of its shelter/housing, what you learned about your animal, pictures of the products we get from the animal and the 4-H symbol and what it means.  These pictures can either be drawn, printed from the computer/internet, or cut from magazines/newspapers.

Your presentation must include the answers to the questions above in a presentation format (do not say "question 1 the answer is..."),   two (2) other interesting facts about your animal, and the description of your chosen 4-H project.
