Hello from central Ohio! Blacklick is one of seven elementary
schools in the Gahanna-Jefferson school district. Gahanna is a suburb of
the city of Columbus, which is the capital of Ohio.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Snack
Mrs. Bourgeois's classes at Blacklick Elementary made
and enjoyed the hungry caterpillar snack after reading the book The Very
Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
This is how we made it:
1) Each child uses a round cookie cutter (or drinking
glass) to cut 2 slices of bread into a circle.
2) Spread with peanut butter (or tuna salad or jelly -
whatever the children prefer) . Put circles together to make a sandwich.
3) Slant the circle sandwiches upright leaning on one
another on a serving dish and insert a three inch long carrot and celery
stick for legs into each sandwich.
4) Decorate the "caterpillar's" head by spreading
peanut butter on the face and add two stuffed olive slices for the mouth,
shredded cheese for hair. Attach one half of a cherry to a cucumber slice
(with a toothpick) for a hat and place on top of head.
Ingredients:
- 2 loaves of bread
- peanut butter
- 20 carrot sticks
- 20 celery sticks
- 2 olives
- 6 raisins
- 2 cherries
- 1 slice cucumber
- shredded cheese
We hope you are able to try this fun recipe and have as
much fun with it as we did!

Butterfly Bites
We have caterpillars in our classroom that we are waiting
to turn into butterflies. We made this snack to help us with the wait!
- Take a piece of celery and spread cheese inside the
celery.
- Then take 2 pretzels and place them in the middle
of the celery stick.
- Add raisins for the body and little pretzel sticks
for the antennae.
- Eat and enjoy!!
