Each one of us is unique. There is no other person exactly like us.
We resemble our parents because we have inherited characteristics from each
of them. In this unit you will learn how genetic traits are passed
from generation to generation. You will find that traits are sometimes
hidden in certain generations. You will learn about recent disco
veries concerning the structure of the genetic material itself, DNA.
You will be introduced to how genetic information is coded inside of the
nucleus of each cell. You will also learn how genetic material (DNA)
from one organism can be spliced into different organisms by something called
"Genetic Engineering.
Genetics is the study of how characteristics are passed from one generation
to another generation. This is also called heredity. Animals and
plants inherit a great variety of traits from their parents and pass these
characteristics on to their offspring.
