ALL ABOUT KIRSTEN

My name is Kirsten Sue Marie S., and I am 15 years old and a freshman at Hobart High School in Hobart, Indiana. This is my seventeenth media fair project in the last nine years. I live with my mom and dad. My brother, Chris, is a freshman at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

This has been a busy year for me. So far I have:

  • Managed the high school boys' soccer team and received a letter;

  • Represented the high school swim team as its only female diver and received a letter which received "all academics" standing for the team's collective GPA;

  • Cheered for the freshman boys' football team and lettered for cheering on the junior varsity squad during basketball;

  • Participated in the high school murder mystery dinner;

  • Played the role of Rebecca Gibbs in Our Town performed four times, the high school fall play;

  • Was part of the ensemble in 42nd Street, the high school spring musical performed five times, during which I learned to tap;

  • Was one of the Cheshire cats in Alice in Wonderland, the children's program put on for the elementary schools in our district;

  • Was the first freshman to be appointed emcee for the high school talent show which ran three evenings and in which I also performed a dance from HairSpray;

  • Am an active member of Key Club, an arm of the Kiwanis, where we serve our community through Lupus Walk for a Cure, Christmas in April, Relay for Life and other service opportunities:

  • Am an active member of the Hobart High School Booster Club;

  • Am an active member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and

  • Am an active member of the Genesius Players, Hobart High School's drama club and will letter in theater this year.

Most of my media projects are borne through researching projects for school. There was a great deal of information available on teenage drinking, drug use, and smoking, but it was overwhelming. Therefore, Riley and I decided it would be helpful to condense some of the information into a few pages on each subject which might be more useful to other students.

It's always a lot of work with long hours, but the fun part is getting to travel around the United States. Miss Wilkison and I have gone to Atlanta, Dallas, Anaheim, Chicago, Orlando and back to Dallas to accept my awards for the AECT Student International Media Fair.

Other projects I have done are:
