The Pentagon

The Pentagon is the main building for the Department of Defense in Washington, DC. There are about 23,000 workers at the Pentagon. The people who work in the Pentagon are both civilian and military. The purpose of the Pentagon is to plan for the defense of our country. It was built during World War II. It took 16 months to build and was completed on January 15, 1943. It cost $83 million and contains 17 buildings.

On September 11, 2001 the Pentagon was attacked by terrorists flying an airplane. About 2,000,000 square feet was damaged by the will cost about $700 million to repair.
