Purple Cow Day
At George Earle
Elementary we celebrate Purple Cow Day in honor of Gelette Burgess' Poem.
Gelette Burgess was born January 30, 1866 and we schedule the
event on or near his birthday. The children and staff wear purple and our
hallways echo with the recitation of the poem:
Purple Cow
I never saw a purple cow,
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I'd rather see than be one!
This year the students
were assigned a creative writing project and asked to write a
short essay on Purple Cow Day. It was a fun assignment for the students.
We hope you enjoy them as much as we have in class.
