Group Project

You will be placed in a group of 4-5 by your teacher.

As a group:

1.  Each member of your group will choose a different role from below for your journey.  The top 4 must be chosen.
 
 

2.  Download the pioneer template  OR print out the pioneer template concept map.  Use it to organize your research information.

3.  You will then research pioneer life from your character's perspective using the links provided or books listed under resources.  Your research should

4. Decide upon a container  appropriate to the time period to use as your time capsule.

5.  Choose at least ten necessary pioneer items to be placed inside.  Choose at least one item for each member of your pioneer family.

            example:      Mother - Kitchen Utensil
                                 Father - Farm Tool
                                 Child - Toy

Your item choices can be drawn pictures, photos,  or 3-D items.  Be specific.

6.  Design a map of the your journey on paper, or use a drawing program on the computer to include in your time capsule.  Include labels, symbols, and a mileage scale.
 
 
 

Individual Project

As an individual you will :
1.  Write a 5-9 entry journal from your chosen role as a member of the family traveling west.  Journal content should include:

• sites
• problems or dangers along the way
• weather
• encounters (with Indians or wild animals)
• choice of animals pulling your wagon (research the best choice)
• entertainment
• food and utensils taken
• distance traveled in a day on the trail

• include the beginning and ending of the journey
• be dated
• be historically correct
• tell where you are according to landmarks
• include feeling and be creative and descriptive
