The following student code is primarily a statement of the code of conduct, responsibilities and procedural rights. While it relies heavily on Board Policy, it is not a restatement of that policy. For a complete text of the Board Policy on Students, each administrative office of the school corporation has a copy of School Board Policy for review. |
Parents desiring to have their children absent from school for family vacations and/or trips must follow these procedures:
A. The parent, in person, must make arrangements with the school principal or his designee to fill out a vacation application, preferably two (2) or more school weeks in advance of the time the student is to be absent from school.
B. The family unit for vacation and/or trips is defined as the parent(s) AND the child(ren) attending school(s). Any deviation from this specific procedure will be evaluated by the building principal or the principal's designee.
C. A maximum of five (5) school days per school year is allowable for family vacation and/or trips.
D. Classroom work will be made up to the satisfaction of the classroom teacher(s). The make-up work must be completed within a period not to exceed the time equal to the number of days absent.
E. Failure to make up classroom work missed will result in a loss of learning for the day, or days, of absence.
F. All school days beyond the allowable limits will be considered as unexcused absence. This will result in the loss of learning for such absence.
The above administrative regulation regarding planned family vacations is the result of a cooperative endeavor between parents and school personnel.
This regulation was also developed in relationship to the compulsory attendance law for the State of Indiana. An excerpt from the Indiana Code, Title 20, Article 8.1, Chapter 3, Section 17 is as follows:
". . . . . a child for whom education is compulsory under this section shall attend school each year. . . . . for the number of days public schools are in session in the school corporation in which the child is enrolled in Indiana. . . . ." |
