All About Amber

My name is Amber Renae N. I am 13 years old and a seventh grader at Hobart Middle School in Hobart, Indiana. l live in Hobart with my mom, dad, my sister Erica, and the baby of the house, our dog Patches.  I want to attend the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and study to become a doctor.

My first experience with projects using the computer was when I was at Joan Martin Elementary School.  I worked on a Media Fair project with the broadcast club.  Last year Kirsten and I earned our Girl Scout Bronze Award together and our parents took pictures of us building the birdhouses.  One day we were fooling around on the computer with the pictures and ended up with a Power Point slide show.  The project, "USA Girl Scout Bronze Award:  Bluebird Houses," was only entered in the AECT Student International Media Fair and we won!  This is the first time I have worked on a web page and I have learned a lot from Kirsten. We created a video called "The Tale of Two Students" to be a streaming video for this project. Because it was over 8 minutes long we have made it a separate project to enter into the AECT Student International Media Fair competition and Kirsten's brother, Chris, will help us fine tune it better.  Chris is in high school so it will be entered at the high school level even though we are only in middle school.

I enjoy playing all kinds of sports. I have played recreational basketball since I was in kindergarten. Now I am on the Hobart Middle School basketball team. We play at all different schools in Northwest Indiana. When I have time, I also practice soccer with the Wild Cats Futbol Club.  I have been on Pop Warner Cheerleading squads and think I would like to be a cheerleader in high school. I was on the the school's gymnastics team in the fall and in the spring I run the hurdles on our school's track team. During the summer I play softball through our city league.

I love music and play the flute in the Middle School band.  Our band has participated in solo and ensemble competitions the last two years.  I placed second as a sixth grader and also as a seventh grader.  When I am not on the phone or playing on the Internet, I am listening to the radio.

Once a week I attend confirmation classes at St. Augustana Lutheran Church in Hobart, Indiana and am very involved in the youth group.  This gives me the chance to do things for my community and my church friends. We like to try to do things that help the community and the less fortunate. I enjoy attending Camp Lutherwald during the summer.

I love hanging with my friends.  My circle of friends includes people with all different interests.  These people give me the ability to examine different options I can choose from.  I've noticed that people who hang out with the same people all the time are pretty limited in what they like to do.  For me, it is better to have different kinds of friends because I get to experience more things.

An example would be my relationship with Kirsten. We have been in the same Girl Scout troop since I was in second grade and she was in first. Even though we aren't in the same grade, we have fun doing things together. We aren't always involved with the same activities, but we always support each other. She comes to my band concerts and I go to her choir concerts and plays. I go to her soccer games and she watches my basketball and baseball games. We don't always like to do the same things, but we can support each other. By being involved in different things, we have the chance to meet other people.
