  • Be open and help others.

  • Volunteer for services and participate in different things.

  • Be an example in your school by making good healthy decisions.

  • Join clubs and organizations, especially those that do community service

  • Spread the word that drug free is awesome.

  • Become more cautious and aware of what’s going on.

  • Let others see your own personal ethics and morals.

What is Make A Difference Day?

"Make A Difference Day" is a day of helping others, which is a celebration of people helping people. Everybody participates. This was created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.  (USA Weekend)

As Girl Scouts we have always had community service projects to do.  We have collected food for the Hobart Food Pantry, helped out at the HIDEC Mama Mia Spaghetti Dinner, and helped younger troops.  Amber does a lot of different activities through her church youth group, and Kirsten helps at George Earle's Market Day.

Click here to watch a slide show of how we made a difference last year when we earned our Girl Scout Bronze Award by doing something for our community.  (You can download it to your hard drive or just play it.  It does take a little time to download so be patient.)  We built bluebird houses which we placed in the Stuart Mattix Prairie behind George Earle Elementary.  By bringing the bluebirds back to the prairie we are taking a step to restore the prairie to its natural state.  The Post-Tribune's website has a photo album showing our work.  Our Girl Scout troop has volunteered a lot of time in the Stuart Mattix Prairie by gathering wildflower seeds, planting them, and even burning brush.
