I am now going to tell you the
location of the lion. A very long time ago hunters in southern India hunted
lions until they were almost extinct. Now they only live in the Gir forest of
India (Cavendish 1450-1451). The Gir forest is almost on the borderline of India
and Pak. They weren’t hunted in Africa because they still live in Niger, Chad,
Mali, Tanzania, Botswana, Uganda and Mozambique. The environment they live in is
forest and plains. (“Lions” 298-301). I am now going to tell you the description of a lion. The
lions length is almost 9 feet the, tail being 3 of them. Their weight could be
up to 550 pounds. The lionesses are smaller, their coat is tawny. The males’
mane is also tawny. The mane is a group of hair that covers the head, neck, and
may extend to the stomach.
I am now going to talk about hunting and defense. Lions are sociable
animals, they have prides up to 20 members. Members cooperate in hunting to
stalk or ambush a herd. They also combine in defense. They can run short sprints
up to 40 miles per hour. This is how the lionesses hunt. They form a line then
go off in different directions. They stalk their prey then ambush from all sides
and take down their prey. That’s the hunting and defense of a
lion(“Lions”298-301).
I am now going to tell you about home life. Lions are always together.
They have peaceful lives among the herd. They spend 20 hours a day sleeping.
They travel 5 miles a day, and if hungry may go 15 miles in search of food. They
have specific territory (Cavendish1452-1454). Now I am going to tell you about tame lions. Ramses II took a lion into battle as a mascot. Roman Elagabalus rode in chariots pulled by lions. Tame lions in circuses have mauled or even killed trainers(“Lions”301). |
